Radek Micka's Award-Winning Design Marries Retro Aesthetics with Modern Technology

The E Beta Cafe Cruiser stands out with its unique properties. It's a two-seater city electric scooter that offers the experience of riding a classic motorcycle, but with a quiet operation that doesn't disturb its surroundings. The scooter boasts a light aluminium frame and a battery range of up to 89km. It also features an infotainment system with a 6-inch touch screen that communicates with your mobile phone and can be controlled even while driving with gloves. Additional accessories like a coffee holder and rear holder add to its appeal.

The design process involved digital sketching, concept creation, 3D printing, 3D modeling, and virtual reality. The result is a scooter that measures 1828mm in width, 755mm in depth, and 810mm in height. The design team, led by Radek Micka, included engineers Jaroslav Herzig, Jana Tomkova, Adam Prikryl, Michal Bernatik, Jan Tomiczek, Ondrej Kousal, and Lukas Votava.

The E Beta Cafe Cruiser is designed for simplicity and ease of use. It can be unlocked without physical keys, thanks to NFC and an internal display. It's designed for sharing in the city, with locking charger stations and the option to add accessories like a bag or coffee holder. The project, which started in September 2019 and finished in August 2020, was based in Brno.

The design was inspired by the classic electric scooter, but with a modern, retro-futuristic twist. The main challenge was to create a simple profile for the main aluminum bent frame while maintaining the overall engineering simplicity of the scooter and its accessories. The result is a smart, classic retro shared electric scooter with a charging station and a lock.

The E Beta Cafe Cruiser has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded Silver in the A' Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The designs are admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, and they introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
